Having an STD while you are pregnant is never a good thing. If possible, STD’s should be cleared up as soon as possible or measures should be taken to ensure that the disease is not passed on to the baby.
When pregnant women go to their first prenatal visit, they are generally tested for STD’s. Certain STD’s are more common than others in pregnant women. Bacterial vaginosis and herpes simplex are he most common STD’s seen in pregnant women in the United States. These two STD’s are treatable and Bacterial vaginosis is curable. Other less common STD’s such as HIV/AIDS are more difficult to treat but with the proper birthing methods, the chance that the disease will be passed on to the baby can be reduced.

Pregnancy is a time when women need to be as healthy as possible. STD’s can cause various health issues for pregnant women. The baby relies on the mother’s body for survival. Any illness can put the baby in jeopardy. To fight off complications from STD’s, it is wise to get to the doctor as soon as you know you are pregnant.

Find out what health issues you have early on can be is the best way to ensure a healthy baby. In order to have a healthy baby you must healthy yourself During pregnancy Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis can be cured during pregnancy.

A dose of antibiotics will clean up these diseases. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, hepatitis B and genital herpes can be passed on from mother to baby during delivery. HIV can be transmitted to the baby through the placenta when the baby is born to through breastfeeding. The fact that treatment and precautions can be undertaken is reason enough to be screened for STD’s. However, if more encouragement is needed there are a number of terrible side effects babies can suffer from exposure to STD’s.

Babies can be stillborn from being exposed to STD’s. Low birth weight, which can cause a multitude of issues, can occur. STD’s can cause disabilities in babies such as blindness, or deafness. They also can cause major complications and diseases such as cirrhosis chronic liver disease.

Since HIV and genital herpes have no cures precautions can be taken during the birthing process. If a woman has herpes outbreak at the time she gives birth a C-section may allow the baby to bypass getting herpes. HIV infected mother also can have C-sections in an attempt to prevent exposure of the disease to the baby.During the initial prenatal visit many doctors test for STD’s.

However, if your doctor does not routinely test for STD’s, most do, ask for STD testing. It is best to have as many tests done as possible so that disease can be ruled out. Once you have received clean bill of health be sure that you are not exposed to any STD’s if you are not exposed to any STD’s. If you are not in a monogamous relationship be sure to protect yourself with condoms when having sex.

Being well informed and careful when you are pregnant is very important. Your unborn child is counting on you to take good care if it.Motherhood begins long before the baby is born. The moment you find out you are pregnant it is time to start making responsible choices for both you and the baby. One of the first things that should be done is scheduling a doctor visit.

Getting in to see the doctor as soon as possible is very important. Start taking care of your baby immediately by taking good care of yourself.

Anyone who travels a lot might find it difficult to continue exercising while on the road. One of the best ways to ensure that you are still getting exercise while traveling is to make sure to leave adequate time in your schedule. If you have the time, there are lots of creative ways to get a little bit of exercise while you are traveling. Some of the best options are for different types of travelers, so take a look at the different categories of travelers listed below in order to find some of the most popular options for different types of travelers.

The Youthful Traveler

One of the best options for great exercise for young people is to go to a club or some other place where you can dance all night long. Although the air is not exactly healthy air to be breathing, what with all the smoking going on in some of these places, dancing all night long can be really healthy if paired with only moderate alcohol consumption. On the upside, many such clubs and bars are going smoke free in recent years, so in a short amount of time, it should be possible to dance the night away in a smoke-free venue in no time. If you are traveling in Europe, don’t count on this happening anytime soon.

Youthful travelers often are adventurous travelers. Even if you don’t quite consider yourself an adventure traveler, check out the tips for adventure travelers below and you just might find yourself fitting the category more and more often as you go.
Adventure Travelers

For those who like to hit the slopes or hit the cliffs, there are so many options for adventure travelers that there are really limitless possibilities. Among the most popular are skiing, biking and climbing. If you are planning a trip, don’t forget to schedule all kinds of this kind of activities not only because it’s a healthier kind of trip, but also because it is frequently the best way to see all of the beautiful places to which you are traveling. Touring Europe is never better than done on bicycle and on foot. Skip the tour bus and rent a bike instead. Not only will you see more, you’ll also get closer to the locals on a bike than you will on a tour bus. Even if you don’t consider yourself a true adventure traveler, set yourself the goal of walking everywhere instead of taking the subway. You’ll see a lot more of the world that way, not to mention burn off all of the calories of yummy local food you consume.

The Business Traveler

The key to getting exercise on a business trip is in scheduling the time to spend your lunch break walking to a place to get a meal or leaving time to stroll around the airport (and not having so much carry-on luggage that you can’t comfortably stroll around the airport). Instead of sitting in your hotel room all night, take a walk and see the sights of wherever you are. You’ll feel less like a business traveler and sleep better because you’ve gotten a little exercise.

The Family Traveling Together

Nothing is more fun for kids than wandering around a new place, not to mention that the more energy the kids use up in physical activity, the lese energy they will have to fight you at bedtime and argue with each other. Try to avoid dangerous activities, try to keep it to adventurous fun like moderate hiking trails instead of climbing rock cliffs. Keeping it adventurous, but always safe, like biking on tarred trails instead of down gravel mountain trails will make it so that everyone’s having fun, but Mom and Dad aren’t scared that someone’s going to break a leg.

Regardless of the type of traveler you are, keeping it fun and seeing the local sights is what keeps a traveler motivated to exercise.

When hormone replacement therapy, also known as HRT, first hit the scene many doctors and women alike thought that they have found a cure-all for the unpleasant symptoms that are associated with menopause.

However, after further research, alarm bells began to sound. The results of some research studies into the effectiveness and safety of HRT seemed to suggest that HRT actually increased the risk of some of the conditions it was meant to keep at bay, including heart disease.

The news media picked up on this story and ran with it, sending many nervous women to their doctors to find out if their health was at risk thanks to their HRT. However, just how great is the risk associated with HRT, especially as it related to heart disease? Are women back to the drawing board when it comes to managing all of those menopausal symptoms, or is HRT not as scary as it has been made out to be?

The truth is somewhere in the middle. Has HRT been demonstrated to increase the risk of heart attack and coronary artery disease? Yes, it has. Has HRT been demonstrated to reduce the risk of heart attack and coronary artery disease in menopausal women? Yes, it has. Are you confused? You’re not alone – many women struggle with the fact that HRT has been shown to be helpful AND harmful at the same time. The simple fact of the matter is that HRT has helped some women, and it has harmed some women.

One major explanation for this fact may come down to age. The study that has shown that HRT increases the risk of heart problems was conducted using older women – an average age of 63 – as the study group. These women had not had HRT treatment in before starting the study. Some of the results may have been down to aging – the women in this age group were at the stage that doctors would expect to being seeing heart trouble anyway, and further, their lack of HRT treatment in the past might have put them at an increased risk for developing heart disease.

Drawing a link between HRT and all of the heart disease found in this study is difficult to do conclusively. What doctors suspect is that HRT is a real benefit to women in the earlier years of menopause. When women in her 50s are given HRT, studies suggest that they receive a lot of heart health benefits from the therapy.

Starting women on HRT at the onset of menopause and discontinuing it as they grow older (after symptoms stop) may be the best course of action for many women. In fact, most doctors believe that keeping women on HRT for as short a time as possible is the safest bet. The bottom line about HRT is that there is no blanket, right or wrong answer for women.

If you have risk factors that increase your likelihood of developing heart disease, like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or you are overweight, HRT might not be right for you. In other case, your doctor may decide that the benefits you will get from HRT outweigh the risks that come with it.

Of course, it always possible and advisable to do everything you can to protect your heart health yourself, especially if you are on HRT. Eat a balanced diet, exercise on a regular basis, and of course, do not smoke. Your doctor can help you develop a routine that can help keep your heart health as well as managing your menopausal symptoms, whether you are using HRT or you are not.

Diets can seem like such a complicated matter, you know that you need to eat less and exercise more; however it can be so hard. One of the worst factors that hold you back from shedding pounds is the size of the portions that we eat.

Research in dieting has shown that if you can get control over the size of your meal portions, you will also be able to control your weight. There are tips that allow you to find the balance necessary for keeping your weight at a healthy level.

The unfortunate part is that there are times when it is hard to keep a handle on your portion size- generally when the amount of food given is out of your control. This tends to happen for example when you dine out for a meal.

For More Information on Common Sense Weight Tips Click Here

You can take control of this though through a variety of different methods. One option would be to choose an appetizer over a main course. Generally, appetizers are big enough to be satisfying without being as large as a main course.

If you are determined to order a full meal, a fabulous idea is to cut your meal in half before you start eating. You can ask to take the other half of your meal home to eat at a later time.

Breaking out of the habit of thinking you need to eat three large meals a day will go a long way in aiding you to control your food portions without feeling hungry. Skip the traditional three meals and decide instead to eat numerous small, healthy meals each day.

This is an excellent way to keep your portions small, and it will leave you satisfied and prevent the dieting pitfall of boredom.

Five small meals daily that consist of whole grains, vegetables and fruit are suggested highly by dieticians. Be bold with your fruit and vegetable selections, try out new flavors and textures, and explore and find foods that you enjoy.

If you do wish for some of your meals to be slightly larger, the earlier in the day that you eat them, the better it is. As your day progresses, ensure that your meals become smaller as you have less hours to burn off the calories that you consume.

When you are trying to control the size of your portions, you need to know the appropriate measurements of food that you need. Use the tools that you have in the kitchen to measure out your food so that you know you are always taking in the proper portion amount.

Items like measuring cups and spoons or a kitchen scale will help you keep your food amount under control each day. Do not try to just eyeball and guess at the amount you are eating, especially when you are just starting out on your diet.

Some people find it very difficult to stop themselves from eating too much, for whatever reason, they can simply not figure out what a good portion size is. These people will find that a plate, with pre-measured compartments is very useful.

These plates can be located online or at a variety of stores that carry kitchen supplies. This plate has areas that hold the perfect amount of vegetables, proteins and fats that are the right amount for you to eat at each meal.

IUD or also called intrauterine device is a female contraceptive. It is a small t-shaped device, which is made from flexible plastic. IUDs are inserted into the female uterus and are only available by prescription.
IUDs get inserted into the uterus, where the prevent pregnancy through preventing the sperm to join with and egg. In the United States there are essentially only two types of IUDs available. The one is ParaGard, and the other one is Mirena. ParaGard contains copper in its device and can be left in place for up to 12 years. Mirena contains hormones, which are released in small amounts on a continuous base. Mirena releases the hormone progestin and is effective for up to five years.

The hormone in Mirena actually thickens the mucus in the cervix area and therefore prevents the sperm form entering the mucus. In some women, Mirena even prevents ovulation. Another way IUDs prevent pregnancy is through alteration of the uterus lining. This way, if an egg is released and sperm reached the egg, the alteration of the lining prevents the egg form implantation.

IUDs are very effective and actually are the most effective reversible contraceptive method. Only one or fewer in hundred women get pregnant on an IUD within the first year and even less with continuing use.
IUDs definitely have advantages over other contraceptive methods. With the thought that there is nothing to be put in place and there is nor remember of taking the contraceptive is a big advantage. An IUD gets inserted by the physician and stays in the uterus until the physician removes it again. The intrauterine device is the most popular form of reversible birth control in the world with more than 85 million women using them. When you are using ParaGard, there are no additional hormones added to your system and therefore your hormone levels are not changed through medication. Mirena IUDs actually reduce or completely stop the menstrual flow for women and therefore no tampons or pads are needed. Should you decide to want a child, the IUD can be removed very quickly and fertility returns often even faster than with oral contraceptives. Also, a big advantage is the privacy of the IUD. Since it is inserted into your body at your physicians’ office, no one can tell that you are using one.

There are a few cons for IUDs, but hose are generally minor. For one, many physicians do not recommend an IUD if you never have had a child before. Essentially this is more related to either old myths or the size of the uterus. The size of a uterus as a teen might be too small and therefore the physician might advice you not to use an IUD. The rest of the cons are more related to the few known complications. Occasionally an IUD can slip out of the uterus. This is generally more likely for younger women and women that have never had a baby. In this case, a woman can of course get pregnant. This is called expulsion and if the IUD is only partially expulsed it has to be removed by your physician.

Very rarely, but it can happen, is the fact that the IUD can be inserted in such a way that it perforates the uterus lining. This is not painful and can be corrected right away. But in a few of this cases where perforation is not detected, it can move to other organs and cause more severe damage there. Another rather rare complication form insertion is pelvic infection. This can happen if your physician did not work clean enough or you had exposure to sexually transmitted infections.

In general, the benefits for women through IUDs are greater than the disadvantages and therefore as mentioned are a great addition, freedom and safety to a woman’s lifestyle.

If you have experienced painful sexual intercourse, you are not alone. Even though it is not often discussed, almost every woman has experienced pain during sex at one time or another. However, while painful intercourse may be a passing occurrence for some women, for other women, pain during sex is something that happens all of the time and that affects all of their intimate relationships. No matter if you have had pain during sex for the first time or if sexual pain is a major problem in your life, it is important to address the reason why it is happening, for the good of your sex life and your overall health.

Painful sexual intercourse, which is also known as dyspareunia, can happen for any number of reasons. The first question in narrowing down the exact cause for the painful sex is whether the pain is a new occurrence or something that has plagued you for a long time. If you have had pain free sex in the past and are experiencing pain during intercourse for the first time, the reason may come down to a related health problem.

Sexually transmitted disease can cause you to have pain during sex, especially diseases like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia that cause inflammation. Pelvic inflammatory disease can also cause painful intercourse, as can viral infections and yeast infections. If you believe you have any of these problems, it is best to hold off on intercourse for a while until you have seen a doctor and received treatment. Sexually transmitted diseases and yeast infections can be transmitted to your partner easily, and then your partner can re-infect you the next time you have sex, starting a cycle of infection. Growths within your reproductive system may also cause you to have painful sexual intercourse.

Polyps on your cervix, though normally symptom-less, can cause pain during sex, as can polyps on your uterus. Fibroid tumors within your uterus may also be to blame for painful sexual intercourse. Sometimes, if you have an ovarian problem, like a cyst, these can cause you to have pain during sex – this kind of pain may increase in certain sexual positions. If there is scar tissue in your vagina from surgery or other injury, this tissue may become inflamed and painful during sex.

If you have experienced painful intercourse for a long period of time, then you may have a condition known as vaginismus. In this condition, the pelvic floor muscles that surround your vagina constrict during sex, making the vagina seem too “small” for sex. In some cases, the muscles may make the vagina completely impenetrable. Women who experience this condition usually have a difficult time using a tampon or having a pelvic exam as well. Vaginismus may occur for reasons a woman is unable to pinpoint, however, often women who experience this condition have been the victim of rape or sexual molestation. This condition tends to have a self perpetuating nature – painful intercourse leads to avoidance of intercourse or it leads to increased tensing of the muscles the next time a woman tries to have intercourse, which makes it more painful again.

The good news about all of these conditions is that it is possible to treat them all. No woman has to live with painful intercourse or has to resign themselves to a life without sex because it has been painful in the past. The key is to bring the problem of painful sex to the attention of your doctor. It can be a difficult subject for many people to broach, but it is important that you do so. Rest assured your doctor has dealt with the problem before and get the medical attention that you need.

The acronym HPV stands for Human papillomaviruses, which consist of a group of viruses. Papillomas are benign tumors and some of the HPV viruses produce them. These tumors tend to grow in areas such as the hands, feet, throat or genital areas. The causes of the warts vary. The HPV viruses that cause warts on the hands and feet differ from the ones that cause warts on the throat and genital areas. Out of the 100 HPV’s that exist, there are some that are thought to lead to cancer.

Only 30 types of HPV are contagious. Meaning that 70 types cannot be passed on from person to person. HPV’s are transmitted sexually but the actual time of infection is generally unknown. The majority of HPV’s run their course without treatment or cures. They can exist in the body without altering any cells. Genital warts or condylomata acurninatum, are caused by two different types of HPV. HPV6 and HPV 11 cause genital warts. Typically people see warts a couple of weeks after they have sex with an infected partner. Some people acquire HPV and warts do not appear for months or years. Others never get warts.

HPV infections generally do not cause symptoms. You can have HPV and never have any clue. HPV’s are a major contributor to the number of cervical cancer cases. Cervical cancer is a devastating disease that kills effects women around the world. Recently studies have suggested that HPV’s may play a major role in several different types of cancer.Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers associated with HPV’s. There are 14 HPV’s, in addition to HPV 6 and HPV 11 that may lead to cancer. These sexually transmitted HPV’s are referred to as benign high risk.

If the HPV’s that are not the ones associated with genital warts produce any symptoms, they are very mild. Slightly raised growths on the genitals are typically the only symptoms that manifest themselves in non genital warts causing HPV’s.When it comes to HPV infections and cervical cancer, there are several different factors that may increase susceptibility. Multiple sex partners increase the risk of cervical cancer. Being infected with a high risk HPV also increases the chance o the virus leading to cervical cancer. Women that smoke, have many children increase their risk of developing cervical cancer if they acquire HPV.While HPV’s should be something that all sexually active people should be aware of, HPV’s leading to cervical cancer presents only a small risk. Most people that get HPV will never have any symptoms or repercussions from it.

There is now and FDA approved vaccination that can help prevent HPV16, 18, 6 and 11. HPV 16 and 18 cause the overwhelming majority of cervical cancers. In order to avoid HPV infections, completely you have to refrain from sex all together. For most people this is an unrealistic expectation. However, by maintaining a low number of sexual partners and being in a mutually monogamous relationship, the risk of contracting HPV can be drastically cu down.

HPV can be detected with an HPV test. If a Pap smear displays abnormal cells, an HPV test can be given to find out if it is present.

The best way to maintain a healthy cervix is to make sure that you have a Pap smear every year. When it comes to health the best defense is a strong offense. Visit your physician or gynecologist for a pap smear every year. Teenagers and women under a certain age are eligible for the HPV vaccination. Ask your doctor about the HPV vaccination.

Breast cancer is a real risk for any woman and especially for women where breast cancer runs in the family. To know as much as you can about a health risk and risk factors related to breast cancer should be important to any woman. Of course, the exact causes of breast cancer and any other cancer is not exactly known, but there are risk factors that can lead to a higher probability for a woman to get breast cancer. One thing that is for certain–breast cancer is not contagious. You cannot get cancer from a cancer patient and breast cancer is not caused through touching or bruising of the breasts.
Risk factors that increase the chance of breast cancer are many, so here are a few risks you should know about. Age is one of the risk factors related to breast cancer. Most breast cancer is detected in women over 60 and is rarely seen in women before menopause.

Family history is one of the bigger ones on the list. If the mother or sister, or even daughter of a woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it is more likely that the woman will also develop breast cancer, especially if the family member got breast cancer before she turned 40 years old. Also, other relatives can also increase the likeliness of breast cancer, such as women in the father’s side of the family. If your breast was diagnosed with a certain set of abnormal cells in it, you are more likely to have breast cancer. These cells are not cancerous yet, but these changes of the breasts can be indicators for breast cancer.

Also, if you were diagnosed with cancer in one breast you are more likely to develop cancer in your other breast. This as well as certain changes in genes can cause breast cancer that is related to your own personal history. Some studies show certain facts related to reproduction that is connected to a heightened risk of breast cancer. For example, if a woman is older when she gives birth to her first child, or a woman has had her first period before age 12, a woman who never has had any children and other such facts are connected to a higher risk for breast cancer. On the other hand, women that have had a miscarriage or an abortion as so many seem to believe, are not connected through those facts to breast cancer.

Also a factor for breast cancer is your race. More white women have been diagnosed with breast cancer than Asian, African American or Latin American women.Something to think about for many of women is the factor that women that are obese during and after their menopause are at a higher risk of getting breast cancer. Other health and lifestyle related issues have also been connected to breast cancer by some studies. For example, woman that did not work out throughout their life are a higher risk for breast cancer than woman that stayed fit. The more alcohol a woman drinks, the greater seems to be her risk of breast cancer.

Since nobody exactly knows all about cancer, many studies are still being worked on and some studies might even give a different opinion about some of the risk factors mentioned above. Before you panic because you and your family know one or more of these factors, you still might not get breast cancer. It is known that women that can show more than two of these factors still might not get breast cancer. Being at a heighten risk does not necessarily mean that you will get breast cancer. It is meant to keep you thinking and checking about it with regular checkups and breast self-exams.
